Convenient new medical centre planned for central Redditch

Work has begun on a new conveniently located medical centre in central Redditch that will improve choice and access to range of medical services for local people.

The £350,000 scheme is being undertaken by Assura, one of the UK’s leading investors in primary care centres, and will see the building above the Lloyds Pharmacy on William Street converted for medical purposes.

The new medical centre will aim to improve patient choice and access as well as help to take some of the pressure off the local hospital by treating the less complex cases in the community.

Some of the services that will be available include a community eye service, minor surgery and a community dermatology service. It is hoped that in the near future additional services such as physiotherapy and stop smoking services may also be available from the new centre.

All services will be provided by Assura Vertis LLP, a partnership between GPs in Redditch and Bromsgrove and Assura which was set up to allow certain services that were traditionally only available in the local hospital, to be provided in the community.

Assura Vertis currently provides community dermatology and physiotherapy services at several locations across Redditch and Bromsgrove.

Commenting on building works, Assura development manager Amanda Horley, said: "We are delighted that fit out works have now begun on what will be a fantastic new facility for the local community.

"The existing building has the added advantages of already having disabled access and is located alongside complementary medical services such as an optician and a pharmacy."

Dr Richard Burling a GP from Redditch and member of Assura Vertis said:  'We are very excited to be able to offer our excellent clinical services from a new, dedicated medical centre. The town centre location, with its close proximity to three large GP practices will be hugely convenient for the patients of Redditch.”

Fit out works are expected to be completed by the end of April and services will commence shortly thereafter.
